How bad was the snowstorm on the North Shore of Lake Superior yesterday?

At about one in the afternoon my husband, knowing I was getting a bit claustrophobic in the house, suggested we go to the nearest big city of under 100,000 for some shopping. We bundled ourselves and our oldest and youngest daughters into the car and started down. Our middle daughter had to work and we would never have gotten back in time for her to get to her job.

Snowplows were already on the expressway trying to keep pace with the snow that was thickening the further we traveled. We got down to the shopping center, spent about three hours getting what we needed, and started back. My entire trip was spent pressed back into my seat with an occasional "Lord, help us!" escaping my lips as the two lane expressway became a rutted one lane. Once we got to Two Harbors, we dropped our oldest off at her work place a half hour early and went home.

Our middle daughter had propped a message up on my computer keyboard: "Mary M. called. No church tonight." Our pastor is one who hates to cancel church for any reason, so even he must have recognized how difficult the roads were getting.

I was so glad to be home and after supper I realized how tired all of that white knuckle traveling had made me.

There is church this morning, I'm sure. Time to get my family up to try to dig out a little before we have to be there. Until later.
