What's on today's menu for me and my family? This weekend is Heritage Days in our town, and today is the parade. Usually lots of candy thrown out, and I try to keep my youngest from gorging herself. This year I volunteered to man the Information Booth down by the area that the Arts and Crafts Fair is set up. I work for one and a half hours before being relieved. I'm supposed to be there about the time the parade is scheduled to finish. So it looks like my teenaged daughter will have to watch her preteen sister for awhile after the parade.
My husband as well as my 20-something daughter are both at work. Then at 7:00 tonight we have church where I play the clarinet on the worship team.
For writers, a local celebration like this one can be an inspiration. You can take one small glimmer of town history, perhaps a story that is buried deep in the annals of the local historical society and create an entire fiction around it. Maybe you overhear or observe a confrontation or conversation and that sparks a story. Or perhaps you see a tourist that seems a colorful character. If you are in my town today or tomorrow, you may see me.
I'm the one looking for inspiration.
